Anne, I can't believe it's been a year! A year of robust conversation, of supporting each other during our most difficult times and celebrating our joys and successes.
We have found things we dislike and have voiced our opinions about it but we have also found and embraced things that have become traditions to us! Along the way we have made fabulous long-lasting friendships.
I still wake up every morning looking forward to saying good morning to #usguys ; my friends & extended family!

So glad to have you all in my life #DeepAppreciation

Almost a year later and going strong! #UsGuys has grown and changed over time, but I love that the core group is still there. :)

You know, it's interesting, because only recently I've been noticing a disconnect between social media for large corporations vs small companies. Theoretically, the principles are the same -- engagement, relationship-building, real-time response -- and yet the execution between the two is now seeming much more different than it did even just 2 years.

For small businesses, they just as often need to stop "tool-chasing" and just focus on the basics.

This graphic is almost overwhelming in its depiction of digital media marketing, but it's also exciting to see how this whole thing has grown in such a short time!

Jeannette, thanks for including this guest post from Cary. The part about "asking questions," all kinds of questions, is an important reminder.

Twitter is a peculiar galaxy. Sometimes, I'll lean-in to my tribe and ask a quick question that I know someone knows the answer to -- and that I've built up enough whuffie to ask .... and ..... crickets.

Yet, other times, I'll pop off some little diddy, and then be responded to with a flood of unexpected support and fellowship.

So I'm learning just to let it be what it is. And to look at it more *universally* rather than focus on just a specific moment in time.

Dane, thank you for stopping by! You're not alone having a hard time 'getting' LinkedIn. The easiest way I can put it, is; LinkedIn continues to be a virtual resume! It is important that you keep it fresh, up to date with accomplishments, news, recommendations, etc. 90% of the people you meet now days will look you up in LinkedIn within a few days of #intro. They want to learn more about you and they expect to see you there.

Now, in the other hand; LinkedIn had done a fabulous job keeping up with other social media platforms, it has a 'wall', you can add comments, you can 'Like' companies, you can follow companies.. and people make the mistake of thinking this is Twitter!
They bring their tweets over from Twitter to LinkedIn and it clogs the people's stream. No one likes that!

LinkedIn continues to be a 'professional' platform; great from connecting professionally with other people. Great for job seekers and business. Great for professional discussions within groups you join.

So while you might think you don't need another platform to be active; you do need a strong professional presence here!

Hope this helps you 'get' LinkedIn a bit more. Now I gotta go check your LinkedIn account:)

~J

PS: the information under your name is SEO, so I recommend you use key words to promote the line of work most important to you.

This is a pretty remarkable infographic, Jeannette. It makes me wonder why I have had a hard time "getting" LinkedIn. I just haven't been able to connect with the social networking aspect of it yet. When at last we meet for coffee, I hope you can explain it to me! I'm intrigued by its potential.

On a side note, you post makes me realize, also, how powerful infographics can be... I want to create some for my blog!

Tracy, thank you for your insight! I don't think we are ignoring IRL friends - I think we are engaging with them in different platforms; using the platforms that revolve around us every day of our lives. But I do think it's important to bring THAT engagement back to real life settings! I believe if you meet people in social media platforms, that you make it a point to meet them IRL or that you bring that relationship #beyond140. But the most important thing is the keep a good balance between this side of your life and the side that includes the people not in your social media circles; such as your family! Dan Perez wrote a great post about Klout, it talked about which Klout was more important; your social media Klout? or your family Klout? (great read)

Tracy like everything else; the secret of the formula is keeping a good balance between online acquaintances & IRL relationships. I don't think this will plateau...on the contrary more and more people are joining these platforms and the hundreds of social media apps and 3rd part apps are making the engagement easier to accomplish.

Social Media is here to stay! venues like Facebook & Twitter are merely the vehicle that allows us to have that conversation. Those vehicles might come and go, but there will be other platforms that will allow us to continue that talk! So let's take time to find the correct balance!

Thank you for stopping by Tracy!

Looks like we're continuing to ignore real friends/life for the digital versions. I'm wondering, Jeannette, would you expect these trends to continue or eventually plateau within the next five years?

Thanks for sharing!
